It's been working for over 14 hours and is barely warm to the touch. I had a fan blowing into the room near the encasement overnight so that could effect it, but extended use works well.
A lot of enclosures do not have wires with it. I was very glad to get the cables with this enclosure.
This works great so far. But the aluminum worked really well I guess.
I enclosed my Hitachi 1 TB 16MB 7200RPM SATA Bulk/OEM Hard Drive 0A38016. I just backed up my itunes through an old USB 1.0 port.
I was worried to buy an enclosure without a fan.
Assigning the drive letter and formatting the drive was the only "complicated" part and this info made that process a snap:[.]. It totally took longer to remove this beautiful case from it's box than it did to install the harddrive and hook it up to my PC. No more than 5 minutes, tops.
I use one with my notebook on the road and one as a back up drive for my main desktop system. I have 2 computers built on Antec Cases. Buy this one and a couple more. If you need an external hard disk enclosure. Antec products are well made and look excellent. I bought 2 of these and installed 500gb WD HDDs in each.
I had to contact the manufacturer, which I am still waiting for a resolution on this situation, but I am VERY disappointed with this product. When I had to open it manually, I noticed there were no drivers at all included for Windows Vista.in fact it only had drivers for Windows 98. It will not even acknowledge the USB connection as a new hardware connection.what's up with that. First, I am not a computer novice.I had a damaged workstation but the hard drive survived, so I purchased this enclosure to download the information onto a new and larger hard drive. I purchased this item because it claimed it was compatible with Windows Vista, but when I put in the installation disc, it would not autolaunch.
Throw in a drive, plug it in and go. No issues whatsoever. Running non-stop without problem for past 2 months. Product functional. All parts included.
